The Mild/Moderate (MM) Special Day Class (SDC) program supports students with disabilities with mild to moderate severity such as autism; deaf-blindness; intellectual disabilities; multiple disabilities; emotional disturbance; moderate specific learning disabilities;  and authorizes service in grades TK-8.

Goals:

• To ensure students with mild/moderate disabilities have access to the California Common Core Standards and Standard Based Curriculum to enable them to participate in the general education curriculum.
• To provide individualized instruction in academic areas, social and behavioral skills to maximize student achievement.

Description: The Mild to Moderate Program is a placement that provides intensive instruction and services to students when the nature or severity of their disability precludes full or some participation in the regular education program, as specified in an IEP.

Student Population: Students in grades TK-8 who are served through the Mild to Moderate Program are eligible for Services as a result of a disability that is mild to moderate in nature such as noted above.

Service Delivery Model: Students in the Mild to Moderate SDC Program receive services in separate classrooms during the school day where they are offered highly individualized, supervised,  specialized instruction as prescribed by individualized Educational Programs (IEP) with opportunities for mainstreaming with typically developing peers.

Service Provider: The Mild to Moderate SDC teacher provides direct instruction in a seperate classroom setting and/or provides collaborative services in general education settings ensuring that students receive Common Core, Behavioral Support,  as well as Social Skills according to individualized needs. The teacher ensures that support services, accommodations, and modifications as specified on individual IEPs are being implemented. The teacher also consults with school staff to provide mainstreaming opportunities to the maximum extent possible for students.
